Molina Healthcare Is Exiting Traditional Medicare Advantage for 2027, and Non-Renewal Notices Are Due to About 117,000 Members

Molina announced earlier this year that its standard Medicare Advantage-prescription drug product did not fit its strategy, and affected members are now in the window when they should expect to receive non-renewal notices before the October 15 open enrollment start.

Molina Healthcare announced in early 2026 that it would stop offering standard Medicare Advantage-prescription drug plans for the 2027 plan year, a decision that affects roughly 117,000 members who were enrolled in those products as of late 2025.

The company said the standard Medicare Advantage-prescription drug business did not align with its strategic focus on serving people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid through dual-eligible special needs plans. Molina will continue to offer dual-eligible products in its Medicare markets, but standard individual Medicare Advantage plans and standard Medicare Advantage-prescription drug plans will not carry the Molina brand into 2027.

About 117,000 Molina Medicare Advantage members need to find new coverage: the company is exiting standard MA plans for 2027.

Members currently enrolled in a standard Molina Medicare Advantage plan should expect a non-renewal notice to arrive by September 30. Federal rules require the notice by that date and automatically trigger a special enrollment period, giving affected members the right to switch to any Medicare Advantage or standalone prescription drug plan available in their area, or to return to original Medicare.

The departure is one of several by large insurers heading into 2027. Humana, Centene, and Providence Health Plan have all announced significant market exits or plan terminations for the coming plan year. Financial pressure from medical costs that have outpaced premium revenue has been a common driver across the industry.

Members who want to confirm whether their specific Molina plan is continuing can call 1-800-MEDICARE or use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov.

In plain words

Molina Healthcare will stop selling regular Medicare Advantage plans in 2027. About 117,000 people are in those plans right now.

Molina said it will keep selling plans for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. But it is leaving regular Medicare Advantage for everyone else.

If you are in a Molina Medicare Advantage plan, you should get a letter in the mail by September 30 telling you the plan is not coming back. That letter lets you switch to a different plan right away, even before open enrollment starts.

Open enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7. During that time, anyone on Medicare can compare and change plans.

If you are not sure about your Molina plan, call 1-800-MEDICARE or go to medicare.gov to check.
