NewYork-Presbyterian and UnitedHealthcare Reach Another Extension, Keeping Medicare Advantage In Network Through November 30

The October 31 deadline passed without a permanent deal, but both sides agreed to extend in-network coverage one more month. With open enrollment running through December 7, New York-area beneficiaries who use NYP should watch whether a permanent agreement lands before year-end.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and UnitedHealthcare announced on October 29, 2026, that they have extended their Medicare Advantage contract arrangement through November 30, 2026. The update, posted to NYP's public contract-status page, is the latest in a series of short-term extensions that have kept NYP hospitals and the affiliated NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group practices in-network for most UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members throughout 2026.

The two organizations have been unable to reach a permanent agreement despite months of negotiations. Earlier extensions carried deadlines through May, July, August, September, and October. Each time, a last-minute arrangement preserved in-network access while talks continued.

The NYP and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage standoff gets another extension. New deadline: November 30.

Under the current extension, Medicare Advantage members covered by UnitedHealthcare can continue using NewYork-Presbyterian facilities and participating physicians at in-network cost-sharing rates through November 30. If no new agreement is reached before that date, NYP hospitals and medical groups would be considered out-of-network for most UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members starting December 1, 2026.

The timing carries added significance for the roughly 65 million people enrolled in Medicare because the Annual Enrollment Period runs through December 7, 2026. Beneficiaries in the greater New York area who use NYP providers and are choosing or renewing a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan for 2027 should consider whether a permanent in-network arrangement is in place before their enrollment decision takes effect on January 1, 2027.

In plain words

NewYork-Presbyterian and UnitedHealthcare made another short-term deal. Medicare Advantage members can still use NYP hospitals and doctors in-network through November 30. The two sides have not agreed on a long-term contract yet. If no deal is reached by November 30, NYP will be out-of-network for most UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members starting December 1. Medicare open enrollment runs through December 7, so people in the New York area who use NYP should check whether their 2027 plan will cover them in-network before they finish signing up.
