The answer
What is a D-SNP?
A D-SNP is a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan, a type of Medicare Advantage plan (Part C, your Medicare benefits through a private plan) built for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid.
SNP stands for Special Needs Plan, a category of Medicare Advantage plan designed for a specific group. A D-SNP coordinates your Medicare and Medicaid benefits in one place, usually includes prescription drug coverage, and tailors its provider network, covered drugs, and extra benefits to the needs of people who qualify for both programs. Because Medicaid often helps cover costs like the Part B premium and cost sharing for people who qualify, many D-SNP members have low or no plan premiums and reduced out-of-pocket costs. To join, you must keep both your Medicare and Medicaid eligibility.
